Netflix Unveils The Teaser Of One Hundred Years of Solitude; Watch

THE enticing teaser trailer for the much-anticipated screen adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s popular book, One Hundred Years of Solitude has finally been unveiled by Netflix. This marks the debut of the first visual interpretation of the Nobel Prize-winning author’s known novel.

One Hundred Years of Solitude – which is set in the fictitious Colombian town of Macondo, created by the patriarch José Arcadio Buendía – puts forth the story of the Buendía family across generations. The series is set against the backdrop of a haunting curse, love and conflict that binds them to a century of seclusion.

One Hundred Years of Solitude – originally published in 1967 – gained massive acclaim and played an instrumental role in bagging his Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982. The author was never comfortable with the idea of adapting his narrative for the screen until his death in 2014. He feared its complexity might not translate to a conventional cinematic format and insisted it be filmed in Spanish.

His estate has now permitted Netflix to adapt the novel, with García Márquez’s sons Rodrigo García and Gonzalo García Barcha roped in as executive producers on the series.

“[I]n the current golden age of series, with the level of talented writing and directing, the cinematic quality of content, and the acceptance by worldwide audiences of programs in foreign languages, the time could not be better [for a screen adaptation of One Hundred Years of Solitude],” García said in 2019 when the series was first announced.

One Hundred Years of Solitude will be streamed on Netflix this year.
