Hollywood Producer Carol Baum Slams Sydney Sweeney: 'She Is Not Pretty And She Can't Act'

SYDNEY Sweeney, one of the popular rising stars of Hollywood, has found herself under intense scrutiny. Renowned Hollywood producer Carol Baum didn’t mince words during a chat with New York Times film critic Janet Maslin. After a screening of her 1988 film Dead Ringers which featured Jeremy Irons, Baum launched a scathing attack against the actress.

‘I don’t get Sydney Sweeney. I was watching on the plane Sydney Sweeney’s movie because I wanted to watch it,’ she said.

‘I wanted to know who she is and why everybody’s talking about her,’ she added.

‘I watched this unwatchable movie- sorry to people who love this movie  – [this] romantic comedy where they hate each other.’

While referring to the producing class she teaches at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Baum said,  ‘I said to my class, “Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?”

‘Nobody had an answer but then the question was asked, “Well if you could get your movie made because she was in it, would you do it?”

‘I said, “Well that’s a really good question…that’s a very hard question to answer because we all want to get the movie made and who walks away from a green light? Nobody I know. Your job is to get the movie made.”

Baum boasts an impressive resume, having produced 34 films featuring renowned stars such as Jennifer Aniston, Michael Douglas, and Dolly Parton. Last year, she also authored a book titled Creative Producing.

On the other hand, Sweeney skyrocketed to fame with her role in HBO’s Euphoria and has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most promising talents. Within the past six months alone, she has graced the screen in three films: Anyone But You, Madame Web, and Immaculate.

However, despite her rising status, Sweeney remains a topic of intense discussion among industry insiders, with Baum’s remarks encapsulating the ongoing debate among Hollywood elites regarding her acting prowess.
