BAFTA has officially declared the date for the upcoming film awards ceremony, which is scheduled for February 16, 2025. This places the BAFTAs exactly two weeks ahead of the 2025 Oscars, which is scheduled for March 2. The British awards ceremony will once again coincide with the Berlin Film Festival, which is scheduled to run from February 13 to 23.

BAFTA has yet to announce the venue for the 2025 awards ceremony. Last event took place at the Royal Festival Hall in London, three weeks before the Oscars. By maintaining their pre-Oscar timing, BAFTA aims to uphold its status as a key international awards ceremony and a significant predictor of Academy Award outcomes.

The 77th BAFTA Awards accurately anticipated the success of Oppenheimer at the Oscars, as well as the lack of recognition for Martin Scorsese’s The Killers of the Flower Moon and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. While The Killers of the Flower Moon failed to secure any wins at both the BAFTAs and Oscars, Barbie only received one Oscar for the best original song, “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell.

Around 7,800 industry professionals who are members of the British Film and Television Association participate in the BAFTA voting process, conducted over three rounds. Initially, they nominate films for the longlist, then proceed to nominate candidates, and finally, select the winners. BAFTA is set to unveil the complete timeline and eligibility criteria for the 78th BAFTA Awards in the forthcoming weeks.
