PIXAR’s latest animated movie, Elemental left the audiences teary-eyed upon its premiere at the recently held Cannes Film Festival 2023. The film, which is slated for a theatrical release on June 16, 2023, is directed by Peter Sohn.

Elemental was the closing film at the Cannes 2023. Speaking about the overwhelming response received by the film, Peter Sohn said, “My heart is about to explode.”

“This film has been about the richness of diversity. Our lives are better when there are different points of view,” the filmmaker said amidst the response from the audiences.

Elemental, which narrates the sweet, opposites-attract love story, received a five-minute standing ovation.

The Cannes Film Festival 2023 concluded on May 28, 2023. The awards for this year’s film festival were also handed over on the last day. French filmmaker Justine Triet created history by becoming only the third woman to win the festival’s top prize, the Palme d’Or. The director received the award for her film, Anatomy of a Fall.

In her acceptance speech, Justine Triet called it “surprising” that only three women have won the esteemed honour so far. “We’re at the dawn of deep-seated changes in this respect. The filmmaker went on to slam the French government about the protest against pension reforms in France and said that it has been “denied and repressed in a shocking way.”

Hollywood actor Jane Fonda, who awarded the Palme D’Or, reflected on how the festival has come a long way as seven female filmmakers were in contention to win the top prize.

“We have a long way to go. But still, we have to celebrate change when it happens,” the actor said.

The second-highest prize at the festival, Grand Prix was won by German filmmaker Jonathan Glazer for his film, The Zone Interest. Kōji Yakusho won the Best Actor for Perfect Days, while Turkish star Merve Dizdar won the Best Actress for About Dry Grasses.
