Pakistani film ‘Wakhri: One Of A Kind’ will have its world premiere at the upcoming Red Sea Film Festival.
‘Wakhri: One Of A Kind’ has been directed by Pakistani-US director Iram Parveen Bilal.
The movie’s cast includes Faryal Mehmood as Wakhri and Gulshan Majeed.
'Wakhri’ is about a widowed school teacher in Pakistan who grabs attention after sharing her unabashed perspective on social media.
It also delves deeper into how she battles archaic mindsets and secret identities while raising her son.
The film has reportedly been inspired by Pakistani social media star Qandeel Baloch.
Qandeel Baloch was murdered in 2016.
'Wakhri' was also shown at the Locarno Film Festival’s Open Doors Hub in 2018.
In 2019, the movie was screened at the Cannes Cinefondation L’Atelier.
Besides the Busan Asian Project Market in 2022, the film received a production grant from CAPE and CAA Foundation.
The film has been produced by ‘Delhi Crime’ producer Apoorva Bakshi and Abid Aziz Merchant for Sanat Initiative.
