Prithviraj Sukumaran Undergoes Surgery After Minor Accident On ‘Vilayath Buddha’ Sets

Prithviraj Sukumaran will take 4-6 months to fully recover from the injury, producers of his upcoming film said.

MALAYALAM superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran underwent a leg surgery on Monday following a minor accident on the sets of his upcoming film, Vilayath Buddha. The actor sustained a ligament tear while shooting for an action sequence for the movie at Marayoor in Idukki district. 

According to an official statement by the producers of Vilayath Buddha, Prithviraj got injured on the sets on Sunday afternoon. He was shifted to a private hospital in Kochi where he underwent keyhole surgery on Monday.

Sandip Senan, who is producing Vilayath Buddha, told PTI that Prithviraj was immediately taken to a nearby hospital after the accident. “Doctors said it was a ligament tear and he was shifted to Kochi yesterday itself. Today, after consulting with his personal doctor, he underwent keyhole surgery,” said Sandip Senan. 

Sandip also revealed that the actor will have to rest for four to six months to fully recover from his surgery. The shooting for the film has temporarily been halted.

Prithviraj is one of the most sought after actors in the Malayalam film industry. The actor has a power-packed line up of films in the upcoming months. He will be seen playing a prominent part in Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. The film is slated for a Christmas 2024 release.

He is also a part of Kamal Haasan’s much-anticipated sequel film, Indian 2. The film has been directed by Shankar and is set on a huge budget of over Rs 250 crore. Indian 2 is expected to be released next year.

Prithviraj will also be a part of Vyjanthi Movies’ special film, Project K. The film marks the production house’ 50th year in filmmaking and stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani in the lead roles. 

Helmed by Nag Ashwin, Project K is touted to be one of the biggest films in the history of Indian cinema and will explore sci-fi genre like never before. The film is eying a release in January 2024. Prithviraj also has KH233 with H. Vinoth and KH234 with Mani Ratnam in his kitty.
