THE day has finally arrived! One of the most popular music artists in the world, K-pop sensation BTS clocks 10 years today. The boy band including Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, has become a global sensation over the past decade. The band includes the best selling Korean artists in the US history and the first all-Korean act to reach the top position on the Hot 100 and Billboard 200.
To mark the momentous occasion, South Korea’s landmark Namsan Tower was lit up in purple, K-Pop supergroup BTS‘ signature colour on Monday to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
BTS is currently on a temporary break as a group because two of its members are performing the mandatory military service. But this didn’t stop the band’s loyal global fanbase called “ARMY” to gather in Seoul in huge numbers to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
The seven-member group has gained a huge international following after breaking ground for K-Pop’s global success including in the U.S. music charts and industry awards.
The celebrations will conclude on Saturday, June 17. It is also reported that fan-favorite RM is expected to meet fans on June 17 and the event will be followed by fireworks near the Han River in Seoul.
“And I am so surprised and excited to see the Namsan Tower (in) purple, and to see all of the events for the 10th anniversary of BTS. My favourite member is Jimin, but I love all the members. I just want to tell them to be happy and do what they want. ARMY will be there for them. We love them so much,” a 20-year-old fan told Reuters.
Another fan present at the celebrations said, “I’m so proud to be a citizen of the same country (as BTS). Now anywhere I go, when I say I’m from Korea, people always welcome me. So, I’m very proud of them and happy. I hope BTS will continue their career.”
“We feel great to be here. The BTS anniversary, it’s such an experience and being here in Korea all the way from Mexico, it’s amazing, being here in the tower, in the famous tower it’s amazing. It’s great! I don’t know how to express it, but I feel nervous and great to be sharing this moment with my sisters, because they are also ‘ARMY’. And we feel great to be here in Korea. It’s beautiful,” another fan told Reuters.
BTS‘ full group single, Take Two will be released on the special occasion of the band’s 10th anniversary. The announcement was made by their talent management agency BIGHIT music that read, “To celebrate their 10th anniversary, BTS will release the digital single Take Two this coming June. All seven members participated in Take Two. The song conveys their appreciation toward ARMY for all the love you shower them with and their desire to always be together with you.”
The note added, “We sincerely express our gratitude to ARMY for making the 10th anniversary possible with your endless love for BTS, and we hope that Take Two will become a precious “Gift” from BTS to you all. We ask for your love and support for Take Two Release Date: 1 PM, Friday, June 9, 2023 (KST) Thank you.”
