THE much-awaited trailer of Timothee Chalamet’s Wonka was released by Warner Bros. on Tuesday. The film is based on one of the best selling books for children, Willy Wonka and is slated for a theatrical release worldwide in December this year.

The 2 minute 27 seconds-long trailer showcases Timothee as a young Wonka, singing and dancing while setting out to become a renowned chocolate maker. But his dreams hit a roadblock by the members of the devious Chocolate Cartel. What will Willy do next?

Wonka is based on the character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time. The film will narrate the story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.

Directed by Paul King, the film also stars Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter and Olivia Colman. It also features Natasha Rothwell, Rich Fulcher, Rakhee Thakrar, Tom Davis and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.

Fans loved the trailer of Wonka and heaped praises on Timothee’s portrayal of the titular character. One user wrote, “Honestly I love how endearing and comfortable Timothee is in the role. It’s like he amplifies the “feel-good” and whimsical tones of the film really well. I also like how they showed us that Willy Wonka struggles, without shoving it down our throats. Can’t wait for this.”

Another comment read, “My man Timothee Chalamet as Wonka is something I never thought would ever come to existence in this day and age. I bet he’s about to blow box office records with his performance in this.”

“Can’t believe it actually looks great! Looks very fascinating and just a fun time at the theaters. When timothee was announced as wonka I was extremely sceptical about it and now that this has dropped, I can actually see it. And what a plethora of casts,” read another comment.

Wonka releases in theaters worldwide on December 15, 2023.
