EVER noticed how every astrological sign comes with its own set of stereotypes? Aries are pegged as aggressive, Virgos as control freaks, and Tauruses get the lazy label. Aquarius? Well, they’re supposedly as cold as the North Pole. Geminis get accused of being shallow, Cancers are tagged as over-sensitive, Leos as selfish, and Libras can’t make up their minds to save their lives. Scorpios? They’re all about embracing the intensity. Sagittarius? Flighty as ever. Capricorns? Social climbers. And then there’s Pisces, supposedly living the escapist lifestyle.

While these astrological stereotypes have been circulating for ages, what’s making waves lately is the comeback of astrology. Guess who’s leading the celestial charge? Millennials and Gen Z, of course.

What was once brushed off as a quirky pastime has now bloomed into a billion-dollar industry. The mystical services market, including astrology, tarot, and the whole shebang, is now estimated to be worth a whopping US $2.2 billion globally, enjoying a steady growth of 0.5 per cent per year since 2017. As per an EMR report from 2022, India’s astrology, faith, and spiritual sector reached a value of USD 44 billion in 2020. Projections indicate a steady expansion, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10 percent expected between 2022 and 2027.

So, what’s got the stars aligning in favor of astrology? It’s the millennials and Gen Z that are steering the cosmic ship, turning this ancient practice into a thriving cultural phenomenon.

The Astrological Cultural Takeover

According to a report by trend forecasting agency WGSN, the astrological cultural takeover is happening, whether you believe in star signs or not. However, it appears that a significant portion of Millennials and Gen Z not only believes in astrology but actively incorporates it into their lives. Sixty-two per cent of Gen Z and 63 percent of millennials state that their zodiac sign accurately represents their personality traits. Beyond mere belief, astrology is being leveraged by these generations to make life decisions, influencing everything from dating to career choices and even financial decisions, including property and investments.

Rise Of Astrological Apps

The digital era has played a crucial role in the resurgence of astrology. Co—Star, the app that launched in 2017, has become a significant player in this trend by providing laypeople with the tools to explore astrology in the palm of their hands. Boasting more than 26 million downloads, Co—Star has transformed the way people engage with astrology. This app, along with others in the market, has made astrology more accessible, bringing complex cosmic insights to the fingertips of a tech-savvy audience.

Future Focus

Astrology and tarot, two pillars of the mystical services market, allow individuals to project their innermost, often unconscious thoughts and desires onto something outside of themselves. One of the key elements of tarot and astrology is their focus on the future. Instead of dwelling on the past or analyzing the present, these practices provide a roadmap and insights on how best to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

The appeal of these mystical services lies in the comfort they offer during times of uncertainty. Tarot readings and astrological charts provide a sense of order and direction, especially when the future seems threatening and unpredictable. In a rapidly changing world, where traditional sources of guidance may feel inadequate, turning to the stars for insight offers a unique form of reassurance.

The Personalization Of Astrology

Unlike the one-size-fits-all horoscopes of the past, contemporary astrology has embraced personalization. Apps like Co—Star generate personalized birth charts and horoscopes, taking into account the precise time and location of an individual’s birth. This personalized approach resonates with Millennials and Gen Z, who value uniqueness and individuality.

Astrology has become a tool for self-discovery and understanding, allowing individuals to explore and embrace their distinct qualities within the context of their cosmic blueprint.

Social Media Influence

The resurgence of astrology is not confined to apps and personalized readings; it has permeated social media platforms, becoming a cultural phenomenon. Astrology memes, tweets, and Instagram posts fill feeds, creating a sense of community among believers and sparking curiosity among skeptics. The shareability of astrological content has contributed to its widespread popularity, fostering conversations and debates about star signs, compatibility, and cosmic influences.

The Road Ahead

Astrology isn’t just about reading your daily horoscope for a laugh anymore. It’s become a cornerstone of self-discovery, decision-making, and finding solace in the midst of life’s uncertainties. Whether you’re a die-hard believer or a curious skeptic, there’s no denying the impact astrology has had on our culture and daily lives. It’s not just about predicting the future; it’s about finding guidance, community, and a sense of identity in a chaotic world.

After all, as the saying goes, “The stars may guide our destiny, but it’s up to us to chart the course.”
