PANKAJ Tripathi, who won over the audiences with his compelling performances in films over the years, recently bagged the National Film Award for the Best Supporting Actor for his film, Mimi. Fresh out of his win, the actor sat down for an exclusive conversation at the 54th International Film Festival of India to speak to his fans, media and aspiring artists in the film industry about the ways he draws inspiration for every character.

Pankaj spoke about how he was about 30 years of age when he came to Mumbai and took his 8 years to finally land a role in a film. The actor also highlighted how he gets disheartened looking at 26-27 year-olds getting depressed and feeling ‘done’ with their professional life.

Speaking about how we all play different roles in our day to day lives, Pankaj said, “World is a theatre and we play different roles in our lives. Acting is the recreation of real-life roles and emotions. One needs to be empathetic in becoming a proficient actor.”

“Acting serves a broader purpose: to make individuals better human beings by understanding diverse perspectives. When you put yourselves in someone’s shoes, and understand their thoughts, their emotions, and their perspectives, you also become a better human,” Pankaj added during the conversation.

The actor also highlighted the significance of aligning the body and mind for natural acting and said that flexibility and openness of mind and body are crucial to moulding oneself according to the character. “An actor can always take the opportunity for experimentation with their role,” he added.

On the work front, the actor will be next seen in Kadak Singh, which held its premiere at the IFFI 2023 recently.
