FILMMAKER Nitesh Tiwari’s dream project, a film based on the mythological epic Ramayana is set to go on floors this year. According to reports, producer Madhu Mantena has zeroed in on the cast of the movie and plans to make an announcement around Diwali 2023.

After the success of Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt will be pairing up yet again for Nitesh Tiwari’s movie adaptation of Ramayana. Alia was recently spotted by the paparazzi after her meeting with Nitesh, which added fuel to the rumors.

The latest buzz is that the film is very much in the making and is expected to go on floors in December 2023. Apart from Ranbir and Alia, the movie will also star pan-India heartthrob Yash, who hit the golden run at the box-office with his blockbuster hits, KGF Chapter 1 and 2.

“Over the last few weeks, Ranbir Kapoor has been spotted visiting the DNEG office, to check on the progress of Ramayana. The pre-visualization of the world has already been done and the team is now doing look tests with Ranbir to play Lord Ram. The purpose of the visit has been to get the right look for Ranbir as on getting it right, he will then step into the physical transformation aspect,” a report in Pinkvilla cited a source close to the development.

The report added that both Ranbir and Alia have been visiting the makers of Ramayana including Nitesh Tiwari, Namit Malhotra and Madhu Mantena at their office. “The team has already created an entire pre-visualized world of the epic. It’s in the same building as the RSVP office, which spiked the conversation of Ranbir and Alia doing something for Ronnie Screwvala.

Reportedly, Alia Bhatt was the first choice for Ramayana, but opted out of the film due to date issues. After several delays in the film’s shooting, Alia is back on board. Ranbir too is reportedly keen on doing a role which stays with him for a lifetime.

As for Yash, the actor is yet to sign on the dotted line for the film.
