POLITICIAN and actor Manoj Tiwari slammed Naseeruddin Shah’s comments on The Kerala Story and questioned his intentions over the same. The reaction comes after Naseeruddin called the film a “dangerous trend” and said that “we are heading the Nazi way.”

In a recent interview, Naseeruddin Shah was asked for his reaction to director Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story. “Worthwhile films like Bheed, Afwaah, Faraaz, all three collapsed. Nobody went to see them, but people are flocking to see The Kerala Story, which I have not seen, and I don’t intend to see it as I have read enough about it,” Naseeruddin said in an interview with India Today.

The veteran actor added, “On one hand, it is a dangerous trend, no doubt. We seem to be heading the way of Nazi Germany where, in Hitler’s time, the filmmakers were co-opted, attempted to be co-opted, by the supreme leader to make films praising him and what he has done for the countrymen, and running down the Jewish community.”

This however, did not go down well with Manoj Tiwari, who criticised the actor, saying that if Naseeruddin has a problem then he should approach the court. “He is a good actor but Naseeruddin ki niyat achi nahi hai (his intentions are not right). I say this with a heavy heart,” the politician told Aaj Tak.

“When films were made that showed a guy sitting at a shop and passing remarks about a woman, Nasir sahab had nothing to say,” Manoj added.

The politician further explained that The Kerala Story was based on facts. “It is very easy to talk. The way he has identified himself, it is not good as an Indian and as a human being.”

The Kerala Story has been embroiled in several controversies since its release. The movie claimed that over 32,000 Hindu girls were converted to Islam and sent to Syria. The claim was changed from 32,000 to 3 after severe backlash. The film has so far grossed over 200 crore at the Box Office.
