Kangana Ranaut is at it, again! The actress has taken a dig at Priyanka Chopra and other popular actresses while addressing the issue of pay gap in Bollywood. Kangana took to her Instagram stories to share a video of Priyanka wherein she shares her views on pay disparity in the showbiz industry. In her Insta story, Kangana claimed that while most of her contemporaries showed no qualms in doing ‘films for free’ and offered ‘other favours’, she was the first actress to stand up against pay gap in Bollywood.
“It’s true women before me simply submitted to these patriarchal norms… I was the first one to fight for pay parity and the most disgusting thing that I faced while doing this was that my contemporaries offered to work for free on the same roles that I was negotiating for… I can say with confidence most A-listers (women) do films for free along with offering other favours because they fear roles will go to the right people…” Kangana’s Instagram story read.
“And then shrewdly release articles that they are the highest paid, haha… in the film industry everyone knows that only I get paid like male actors and no one else… and they have no one else to blame at least now,” she further added.
In the video which Kangana shared with her fans, Priyanka, during her interview with BBC is seen explaining how she ‘never got paid the same amount’ as her male counterparts and co-stars in Bollywood. Priyanka, who has several popular films to her credit, claimed, “I would get paid about 10 per cent of my male co-actor. It (the pay gap) is substantially large and so many girls still deal with that.”
Earlier this year, Kangana had supported Priyanka when she made a revelation about how she was ‘pushed into the corner’ and was ‘tired of the politics’ in the showbiz industry.
Kangana was among the first actresses to react to Priyanka’s claims and explicitly mentioned that Karan Johar had banned her. In her reaction to Priyanka’s statement, Kangana tweeted, “This is what @priyankachopra has to say about Bollywood, people ganged up on her, bullied her and chased her out of film industry a self made woman was made to leave India. Everyone knows Karan Johar had banned her.”
She further tweeted, “Media wrote extensively about her fall out with Karan Johar because of her friendship with SRK and movie mafia Cruella who is always looking for vulnerable outsiders saw a perfect punching bag in PC and went all out in harassing her to a point where she had to leave India.”
“This obnoxious, jealous, mean and toxic person should be held accountable for ruining the culture and environment of film industry which was never hostile to outsiders in the days of AB or SRK. His gang and mafia PR should be raided and held accountable for harassing outsiders,” she added.
On the work front, Priyanka was recently featured in Citadel and has several other projects, including Bollywood movie Jee Le Zara. Kangana will soon be seen in Emergency and Chandramukhi 2.
