RANVEER Singh and Alia Bhatt-starrer Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani released in theaters on July 28 amid much fanfare. The audiences were excited by the magic of director Karan Johar’s cinema, who marked a return to directing after a gap of nearly 7 years.
Despite reviews like “great” and “best family entertainer of the decade”, the film managed to open only decently at the box office. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani has collected nearly Rs 11.10 crore on Day 1 (Friday).
He wrote about how the food reviews need to be translated to good box office number as well. “RRKPK needs to witness solid growth on Day 2 and 3… Not just metros, but mass pockets need to contribute big numbers too… The content is targeted at youth as well as families and if they come on board – in large numbers – only then will it make a difference to its total on Day 2 and 3,” the tweet read.
The star-power of Alia and Ranveer seem close but not enough to their contemporary, Kartik Aaryan, who gave a Rs 13 crore+ opening day with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 last year. Even Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, which released in March this year, collected a whopping Rs 15.73 crore on its Day 1.
The collections are expected to improve in the upcoming days, with positive word of mouth around the film. Not to forget, the weekend does call for moviegoers to flock into cinemas and catch up on cinema.
About Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, fans have been going ga-ga with Karan getting the quintessential “masala” rom-com back to the theaters. “Very few directors understand to trigger the pulse of audience in the right moment and I feel #KaranJohar is surely one of them in this genre !” wrote one user on Twitter after watching the film.
“What a beautiful film it is all heart and more!! What stellar performances by the entire cast and crew! 💕 If you haven’t yet, do go and watch this family drama it’s a movie to be experienced on the big screen,” read another user review.
Rocky Aur Rani KiI Prem Kahaani narrates the story of two individuals, who hail from two completely different backgrounds and fall in love. Chaos arises when they decide to get married and get their families involved.
The film boasts a strong ensemble cast including Ranveer and Alia with Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Churni Ganguly, Aamir Bushir, Kshitee Jog and Anjali Anand.
During a press interaction, Ranveer called Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani the most ‘Karan Johar-est’ film ever. “It has the Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham feeling in it. It is deliberate. Karan is bringing back that type of cinema that we have grown up watching. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and K3G are timeless cult classics he created. These films form such an integral part of our growing-up years,” the actor described the film.
