CALM, creative and collected – these are clearly the three words that define actor Abhishek Bachchan in the most precise way. The Dasvi star may have been slammed online by critics or fans for his choice of movies, but not once has he made headlines for his angry outburst or aggressive behavior. Abhishek, who is invariably appreciated for his dignified replies, doesn’t equate his role as a host for a live show with humiliation, but with razor-sharp, unprompted sense of humour and witty replies.
In an exclusive interaction with Screenbox, Abhishek explains why the live audience or even those who are watching his show on Television can never expect him to use satire, ridicule or rudeness as a host. The actor understands that hosting a show is a responsible job, and should be carried out in the most dignified and respectful way. “Don’t ever expect digs from me as a host, not even at IIFA. I am not somebody who likes to take digs at others. I find that incorrect, so you won’t see too much of that,” he says.
Anybody who is familiar with the key traits of Amitabh Bachchan’s persona which include humility, dignity and grace, or has followed his onscreen transition from a gangly youth to a wise gentleman would agree that this is the trait that Abhishek has imbibed from his father. “Everything for me comes from my father. However, it is also common decency to not make fun of others. As IIFA host, that’s what I followed. IIFA helps us celebrate and applaud all the work our colleagues do. It is meant for celebrating creativity and films that we make. You can expect witty remarks from me, but not digs at my friends,” he says. IIFA will be aired on TV on June 18.
Last year, IIFA turned out to be a big treat for Bollywood fans because Abhishek was accompanied by wife Aishwarya and daughter Aaradhya. However, they decided to give IIFA 2023 a miss because of Aaradhya’s school.
Much like Aishwarya’s fans who lauded her recent Cannes Film Festival look, husband Abhishek was also in awe of red carpet appearance. The actor makes a conscious effort every year to try something new and pull off the most unexpected look with elegance.
This year, the star took the red carpet by storm when she walked in Sophie Couture impressive piece of art featuring aluminum details, and a cinched corset. The ensemble was embellished with crystals used from the archives of the brand’s Cannes Capsule Collection. And the embellished hood that extended from her head to the torso was simply unmissable. While her locks were styled in a middle part, Aishwarya finished the look by opting for ruby red matte lip, ebony black cat eyeliner, a matte base and defined brows.
Aishwarya’s distinctive look managed to leave an indelible impact on Abhishek too.
“I told Aishwarya how much I liked her recent Cannes look. She is wonderful at everything that she does. Makes us proud all the time. I’m very happy for Aishwarya and also very proud of her work in PS2. Congratulations to the team. As I said. she makes me and the family really proud,” says Abhishek.
Directed by Mani Ratnam, ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ hit the theatres in April. The periodic drama which delves into the history of the Cholas was lauded by the viewers across locations and the film managed to do well at the box office. It has earned Rs 330 crores worldwide.
