India To Shine Bright At Cannes Film Festival 2023?

Cannes Film Festival marks its 76th edition this year, and the Indian contingent will attend the international gala in huge numbers. As jury members, as celebrities making their presence on the red carpet and screenings, as stars making their Cannes debut at events and panel discussions, and as Indian delegates representing Indian cinema, a lot will be offered about Indian culture and fashion at the prestigious festival this year.

ANUSHKA SHARMA’S CANNES DEBUT

If 2022 was mostly about Deepika Padukone attending the festival as a jury member which was a larger victory for the South Asian community, the year 2023 will remain extra special for Anushka Sharma’s fans the world over. Reason? The actor will make her debut at the 76th annual Cannes Film Festival. Sharma, who is often lauded for her acting prowess, will be heading to the French Riviera, along with Kate Winslet, to attend an event that honours women in cinema. French Ambassador to India Emmanuel Linen took to Twitter recently to confirm Anushka and husband Virat Kohli’s presence at the prestigious festival. According to reports, Sharma, who is also a brand ambassador of the cosmetic giant L’Oreal, is expected to represent the brand.

ANURAG KASHYAP’S TRYST WITH CANNES CONTINUES

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who has been at Cannes previously, is prepared to screen his film ‘Kennedy’ under the Midnight Screenings section at the popular film gala. Earlier, his cult classic ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ was screened at the 2012 Cannes Director’s Fortnight. His film ‘Bombay Talkies’ was also premiered under Special Screenings at the festival in 2013. The same year, Kashyap’s Ugly was screened in the Director’s Fortnight section. Three years later, his neo-noir thriller ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ debuted at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival in the Director’s Fortnight Section.

13 INDIANS JOIN CANNES LIONS 2023 JURY

Among 290 global experts finalised to judge and award best creative works from the world over, 13 Indian advertising professionals including Josy Paul, Sukesh Nayak, Ahmed Aftab Naqvi and Swati Bhattacharya have managed to make it to the Cannes Lions 2023 jury.

KANU BEHL’S ‘AGRA’ TO PREMIERE AT CANNES

Kanu Behl’s upcoming Hindi feature film ‘Agra’ will get featured in Director’s Fortnight section of the film festival. Written by Behl and Atika Chohan, the film puts forth a story that transpires in several homes, but remains untold. After ‘Titli’ which premiered in the 2014 Cannes Un Certain Regard section, ‘Agra’ is Behl’s second film to have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
